Celebrating Community Support: SHOW Benefits from the Rotary Waterloo 2024 State of the City Address

SHOW is thrilled to share the news that the Rotary Waterloo 2024 State of the City Address, held in May, designated SHOW as the benefitting charity for the event. This significant event, hosted by Mayor Dorothy McCabe, highlighted the city's achievements and future plans, while also making a tremendous impact on our community.

The State of the City Address, attended by community leaders, local businesses, and residents, focused on several key areas of progress and development. Mayor McCabe discussed housing initiatives, including the transformation of 25 acres at 2025 University Ave. E. into residential land, aiming to accommodate 700 housing units. This project aligns with the city’s commitment to address the urgent need for affordable housing and meet the provincial target of 16,000 new housing units by 2031.

In a touching gesture of community support, the event raised $15,000 for SHOW. These funds will directly benefit SHOW residents, enabling SHOW to continue providing the critical wrap-around support and programming necessary to help individuals maintain their housing and improve their overall wellbeing. This includes food security programs, case management, life skills training, social-recreational activities, and referrals to mental and physical health practitioners.

SHOW is incredibly grateful to Rotary Waterloo, Mayor McCabe, and all the attendees for their generosity and commitment to our mission. The funds raised will make a significant difference in the lives of those SHOW serves, helping SHOW offer stability and hope to those experiencing homelessness.

Brian, SHOW's Executive Director, expressed their gratitude, saying, "This support is invaluable. It allows SHOW to continue the work in providing a safe and supportive environment for our residents, helping them to rebuild their lives and achieve their fullest potential."

Adding to the celebration, Brian Paul and Cathie Stewart-Savage from SHOW were honored with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship award for their exceptional contributions and dedication to the community. This recognition underscores the impactful work being done at SHOW and the unwavering commitment of our team to support those in need.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this successful event.
